Profile of Service
Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS)
OMIS puts you directly in touch with staff overseas and provides tailored advice and support ranging from warmed business contacts through to product launches.
An OMIS is likely to include a mix of pre-visit research and support during an overseas visit. This could include an analysis of possible market entry strategies, the identification of potential business partners and then "warming them up", setting up key appointments on your behalf and could include a launch event for your product abroad.
Research could also cover advice on competitors as well as local regulations and standards. You can also be put in contact with translators and interpreters or have some key appointments set up for you in the market. It all depends upon your needs.
For more information about Overseas Market Introduction Service, please call 01753 870560 or email export@thamesvalleychamber.co.uk.

UKTI helps put the buggyboot® into export markets
It takes a lot to impress a dragon, but in August last year, BBC Dragon’s Den millionaire Deborah Meaden invested £80,000 in an idea for a shopping accessory pitched by businesswomen Carolyn Jarvis and Charlotte Evans.
One year on, the buggyboot® is on sale in the UK, Spain, Germany and Japan, and in September won the coveted ‘Editor's Choice’ accolade in Prima Baby Magazine.
Buggyboot® Ltd was established in January 2006 after Charlotte and Carolyn recognised the need for a product to provide a safer and more convenient experience for parents out and about shopping with young children in pushchairs. Both bring a wealth of relevant expertise to the business from their previous careers - Charlotte was an independent market researcher and nurse, and Carolyn a trainer in childcare.
Seeking a more strategic approach to developing its business overseas, buggyboot® signed up to UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) Passport to Export programme in 2007. This service provides tailored support to help small and medium-sized businesses open the doors to international trade. It includes a two-day Winning & Delivering Business Overseas Workshop, subsidised training, a full company diagnostic, development of an export action plan, advice and guidance, and up to £1,500 of matched funding.
Over the past 12 months, buggyboot® attended UKTI’s Building Business with Agents & Distributors & International Partners course, which helped them secure a commercial deal with Spanish distributor Genau Consulting. They have also been able to visit its Chinese manufacturer not just once but twice.
Last month buggyboot® exhibited at the leading global fair for the baby and toddler sector, Kind und Jugend, in Cologne, Germany. The product was a top-three finalist in the World of Moving Baby and Travelling Baby Accessories category. This is the second year running that the company has exhibited at the show and, as the exhibition is supported by UKTI, buggyboot® qualified for Solo funding of £1,000 towards stand costs...more |
